Installation Instructions – Slab on Ground

Introduction

Pordrän, when used in combination with an approved L-element or edge beams (Albabalk, etc.), is a durable solution that has performed well for many years in everything from industrial buildings to single-family homes and apartment buildings. These installation instructions describe how to use the Pordrän system for a slab-on-grade foundation with L-elements or edge beams. Before installation, begin by ensuring that the important basic requirements for the Pordrän system’s functionality are met .

Key prerequisites for the proper functioning of the Pordrän system

The following points must be followed and implemented to ensure proper operation. 
  1. Choosing Pordrän
    • Select the thickness and hardness based on the project’s requirements for drainage, insulation, and load-bearing capacity. See the sizing table for vertical loads.
  2. Before installation

    • Always make sure the bottom of the excavation is level.

  3. Protection during construction

    • Do not walk on the panels during construction; always place dimensionally stable protective panels on top of them. Pordrän panels must be stored in accordance with the instructions on the packaging.

    • When operating machinery on top of the panels, use lightweight machines with track shoes and drive on the superstructure material, not directly on the panels.

Select the type of base system

L-shaped unit

NOTE: Before you begin, please read the prerequisites and all the steps in the instructions carefully.
  1. Level the ground using the existing material, following the designer's instructions. 
  2. Place a bearing layer and, if necessary, a leveling layer under the L-shaped elements according to the designer's instructions.

  3. Install the drainage pipe and crushed stone/gravel according to the designer's instructions.

  4. Make sure the geotextile covers the entire way down to the bottom of the trench, between the trench slope and the macadam drainage layer.

  5. Place the L-shaped elements according to the drawing.
  6. Install Pordrän panels with a minimum hardness rating of P25, staggering the joints. The panels are fastened together using Pordrän clips. Use approximately 4 clips per panel.
  7. Lay the Pordrän geotextile over the Pordrän panels. Allow an overlap of approximately 250 mm.
  8. Concrete pouring and reinforcement are performed in accordance with the structural engineer's instructions. 
  9. Refill according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Edge beam

NOTE: Before you begin, please read the prerequisites and all the steps in the instructions carefully.
  1. Level the ground using the existing material, following the designer's instructions. 
  2. Install the edge beam's pressure plates according to the designer's or manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Make sure the Pordrän panels are in contact with the drainage layer

  4. Install the edge beams according to the designer's or manufacturer's instructions. 

  5. Install the drainage pipe and crushed stone/gravel according to the designer’s or manufacturer’s instructions.

  6. Make sure the geotextile covers the entire way down to the bottom of the trench, between the trench slope and the macadam drainage layer.

  7. Refill according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  8. Install Pordrän panels with a minimum hardness rating of P25, staggering the joints. The panels are fastened together using Pordrän clips. Use approximately 4 clips per panel.
  9. Lay Pordrän over the Pordrän panels. Allow for an overlap of approximately 250 mm.
