Crawl spaces

A crawl space is an excellent foundation method if constructed according to the heated crawl space model. It provides effective protection against mold, unpleasant odors, and radon from the ground. When making changes to the floor plan, it is easy to relocate plumbing and drainage systems, as these are not encased in the structure. In new construction, it also shortens the construction time since there is no need to account for drying time, as is the case with slab-on-grade foundations. Pordrän solutions for both the renovation of old, naturally ventilated crawl spaces and modern, newly constructed warm crawl spaces.

Renovate a crawl space with Pordrän

It’s quite simple to renovate an existing crawl space using Pordrän. Close all vents to prevent warm, humid summer air from raising the relative humidity in the crawl space. Insulate against cold surfaces, such as the foundation wall and the ground. Thanks to the Pordrän panel’s vapor-permeable solution, we use the ground as a dehumidifier. No electric dehumidifiers requiring maintenance and energy are needed. Good for the environment and your wallet—smart the Pordrän way.

If the floor joists are insulated, some additional heat may need to be added; alternatively, the insulation in the floor joists can be removed, which increases heat transfer down into the foundation.

Pordrän ideal for new crawl space construction

In new construction, perimeter insulation is only required along the exterior walls of the floor structure. Otherwise, we insulate against cold surfaces—the ground and the foundation wall. With the ground acting as a natural dehumidifier, we have built a moisture-resistant structure using the Pordrän system.
